This article highlights the charitable activities of religious organizations in relation to citizens of the Russian Federation. The examples of the two largest faiths examine the directions of such support. The vision of charity from the perspective of church ministers is presented. The opinion was expressed on the need for support of such actions by the state. The correlation of social policy of the state and voluntary activities is made. Given a historical assessment of this topic
